Samuel earned his Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from Fontbonne University in 2013. Since then, he has participated in over thirty group, solo, and competitive exhibitions. His oil paintings have been selected for many awards including The Saint Louis Artists’ Guild’s Gretchen Brigham Memorial Prize, First Place in Painting at the Richeson 75 Small Works, and most recently the Governor’s Award at the 2019 Illinois State Fair’s Professional Art Exhibition. He is on the Edwardsville Arts Center’s Board of Directors and lives in Wood River, Illinois with his wife and daughter.

The imagery in his work is derived from his life and family. Most of these pieces are of Samuel’s wife or daughter and are set in modified versions of his own home.
